HIDDEN KINGDOM TOURS (5 NIGHTS & 6 DAYS)

DAY 01: ARRIVAL TO PARO AND DRIVE TO THIMPHU

Your journey to Bhutan begins flying on Druk Air /Bhutan airline arriving to Paro Valley before noon. Upon arrival, you will be received by our representative. Drive to Thimphu, the capital city. Later visit the BUDDHA POINT and rest of the afternoon at leisure. Overnight at Hotel, Thimphu.

DAY 02: THIMPHU LOCAL SIGHTSEEING

Visit to the national MEMORIAL CHORTEN (1974) built in honor of our late king Jigme Dorji Wangchuk. We will then make a visit to CHANGANGKHA LHAKHANG 12TH century monastery. Then we will visit to TAKIN preservation which has the national animal of Bhutan. On the way we will visit the ROYAL TEXTILE ACADEMY. Right after lunch visit HANDICRAFT MARKET and weekend market as well (ONLY on Friday, Saturday & Sunday) a colourful open-air bazaar. Once the office gets over by 5pm the tourist will be taken towards TASHICHOO DZONG (the fortress housing the Government Offices and the Monastic body. Overnight at Hotel, Thimphu.

DAY 03: THIMPHU TO PUNAKHA

We shall visit a warm valley with paddy fields right after breakfast which is two and a half hours drive from Thimphu via DOCHULA PASS. If the weather is clear, we will stop for a while at Do Chula pass to view higher Himalayas. On the way, visit CHIME LHAKHANG, which was built by Lama Drukpa Kuenley. He subdued the demons with his “magical thunder bolt”. This temple is also known as “the temple of fertility”.

In Punakha, visit PUNAKHA DZONG built in 1637 by Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal and is situated between Pho chu (Male River) and Mo chu (Female River). For many years until the time of the second king, it served as the seat of the government. The construction of the Dzong was foretold by guru Rimpoche, who predicted, “…a person named Namgyal will arrive at a hill that looks like an elephant”. There was a smaller building here called dzong chu (small dzong). Housed a statue of Buddha. It is said that Zhabdrung ordered the architect, Zowe Palep, to sleep in front of the statue, while Palep was sleeping, the Zhabdrung took him in his dreams to Zangtopelri and showed him the palace of guru Rimpoche. From his vision, the architect conceived the design for the new Dzong, which in keeping with the tradition, was never committed to paper. The Dzong was named Druk Pungthang Dewachen Phodrang (palace of great happiness). The war materials captured during the battle with Tibetans are preserved here. Punakha is still the winter residence of Je-khenpo and King Jigme Dorji Wangchuk convened the new national assembly here in 1952. Dinner and overnight in Punakha.

DAY 04: PUNAKHA TO PARO (LOCAL SIGHTSEEING)

Once done with the breakfast the tourist will be driven towards Paro from Punakha which is 127 km. On the way there will be vison of beautiful habitation which consist of freshly aroma of magnificent tress. The guest will be taking rest at hotel at Paro and then the overnight there as well. Visit TA DZONG (built in1656 and renovated in 1968), an ancient watchtower, which is now house of the national museum. Below the museum is the PARO RIMPUNG DZONG (literally meaning “heap of jewels”, built in 1646 by Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal, the Centre of civil and religious authority in this valley. A short walk takes you to the base of the Dzong and across a traditional cantilevered, covered bridge. After lunch visit a BHUTANESE TRADITIONAL FARM HOUSE (NOTE THAT THE CLIENT NEEDS TO PAY NU. 100 PER PERSON: OPTIONABLE). Then at evening leisure

DAY 05: PARO (HIKE TO TIGER’S NEST)

After Breakfast, hike to the Famous TAKTSHANG MONASTERY, the Tiger’s Nest. (10,433 feet). The trail offers spectacular views of this sacred monastery perched precariously on a sheer rock face, 3,000 feet above the valley floor. There will be a stop at the Cafeteria, about halfway to the monastery and enjoy the closer view of the monastery over a cup of coffee/tea. Tonight, farewell dinner with traditional Bhutanese cultural show will be organized (ONLY ABOVE 10 PAX). Overnight at Hotel, Paro.

DAY 06: DEPARTURE FROM PARO

After breakfast, transfer to airport from Paro hotel, where your guide will bid you goodbye and wish you safe journey.
